Fix Data Disappearing

Here’s how to fix your data like scheduled blocks disappearing from Parental Control.

Solutions:

  • One-time blocks are removed once they expire. If you want your events under Parental Control → Schedule to stay forever, choose a Repeat option other than “-” (e.g. “Daily”).
  • Confirm by closing the Parental Control window using the red X or orange “-” in the top left to save and protect your changes.
  • Be sure to select the correct preset on the left-hand side in Parental Control because the websites, apps and schedule are separate for each preset. By default, there’s only one preset called “General”. But sometimes users accidentally create an empty preset, potentially without a name.
  • Parental Control does not synchronize across macOS users accounts yet, even when you are logged in with the same Apple Account (Apple ID). So be sure to log in with the correct user.
  • Parental Control does not synchronize across devices yet. So be sure to use the device where you created the data.
  • Make sure your child has a standard (non-administrator) user account under System Settings → Users & Groups.
  • Be careful with cleaner apps because they can delete user data, which a normal uninstallation doesn’t do. Has somebody used a cleaner app on your computer?

Parental Control contains no programming to delete user data (except expired one-time blocks), even when your subscription expires.
