Fix Data Disappearing

Here is how to fix issues with data such as scheduled blocks disappearing in Parental Control.

Solutions:

  • One-time blocks are removed once they expire. If you want your blocking events under Parental Control → Schedule to stay forever, choose a Repeat option other than “-” (e.g. “Daily”).
  • Confirm your changes by closing the Parental Control window using the red X or orange “-” in the top-left corner.
  • Be sure to select the correct preset on the left-hand side in Parental Control because the websites, apps and schedule are separate for each preset. By default, there’s only one preset called “General”. But sometimes users accidentally create another empty preset, potentially without a name.
  • Parental Control does not synchronize across macOS user accounts yet, even when you are signed in with the same Apple Account (Apple ID). Make sure you are using the correct user account.
  • Parental Control does not synchronize across devices yet. So be sure to use the device where you created the data.
  • Make sure your child has a standard (non-administrator) user account under System Settings → Users & Groups.
  • Be careful with cleaner apps because they can delete user data, which a normal uninstallation doesn’t do. Has anyone used a cleaner app on your computer?

Parental Control contains no programming to delete user data (except expired one-time blocks), even when your subscription expires.
